About Kathleen Yu
I am a kinetic and optimistic developer that\'s making the career jump to a solutions/sales engineer. I have always loved to get involved in multiple aspects of a project ranging from cognitive task analysis to UI design to technical architecture overviews to deployment. I enjoy working in interdisciplinary product-driven teams and contribute not only my quick learning skills but also my joy in facilitating a cohesive and encouraging team culture. My care for technology and people is infectious and I view challenges as another learning experience, with an easy-going but determined attitude to make mistakes and learn from them.As a graduate of Carnegie Mellon with degrees in computer engineering, human-computer interaction, and educational technology, this varied background has allowed me to see situations from multiple points of view and clearly articulate the pros and cons of each. Thus, my passion in technology stems mainly from seeing the impact of service projects that I participated in at Carnegie Mellon and I am very grateful for CMU\'s strong preparation of their graduates to take on leadership in this these projects. From these wide set of experiences experiences, a connecting factor was I realized I loved to listen to my peers, both inside and outside of work, and tailor automated solutions with technology in an iterative way. I naturally picked up story-telling and active listening and it became a pivotal part of my \"marketing\" strategy. Some memorable examples are pitching home automation and robot mops/vacuum to busy mom friends that best fit their budget and spend less time \"managing\" the home and more quality time with their family. When I stumbled across the solutions engineering description on a YouTube video, I felt my heart light up!I am passionate about connecting/learning from other fields at my workplaces. My favorite ones at Capital One were Connected Circles, a professional women\'s mentoring group, conducting technical interviews, and attending the Leadership Essentials for Asian-Pacific Islanders Conference. At my current workplace, I have mentored interns and organized multiple Capture The Flag hackerathon teams.Outside of work, I enjoy playing guitar, leading a discussion group, and managing all digital communications and A/V setup at an international Bible study ministry, called Bible Study Fellowship. I lead a small group of women at my church and hope to model a realistic life of spiritual, personal, and professional values.
