ABOUT KATHY MATT

Dr. Matt served as the dean of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Delaware from July 2009-October 2022. During her time as dean she was instrumental in developing the Health Sciences Complex and the Tower at STAR on the Science, Technology, and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus, a campus created on the site of a former Chrysler assembly plant. The Health Sciences Complex integrates: a primary care clinic, that offers nutritional counseling, mental health services, and fitness and exercise counseling; a physical therapy clinic, and speech language hearing clinic; and shared interdisciplinary and translational research labs—all of which offer state-of-the art facilities for experiential learning and collaborative research. The Healthcare Theatre program located on site is used to train health professions students in the art of medicine and the First Steps program funds undergraduate teams that take on a healthcare challenge and design the solution. At its core, this facility focuses on identifying biomedical challenges at the bedside, studying them in the lab, and then translating discoveries back to the patient in a way that leads to better diagnostics and treatment plans. The campus is created as a platform that facilitates collaboration across academia, business, and the community. Dr. Matt also served as the executive director of the Delaware Health Sciences Alliance (DHSA) – a 501(c)3 involving Christiana Care Health System, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Thomas Jefferson University and the University of Delaware – and co-director of UD\'s health education partnership with Thomas Jefferson University. In these capacities she facilitated a broad range of collaborative activities including joint educational programs and faculty appointments, research and educational grant programs, and regional conferences focused on healthcare research, education and delivery.
