ABOUT KATHY

Kathy Ma is a racialized, uninvited settler gratefully living, learning, and working on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh people. She is a Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) practitioner, lifelong student of social justice and decolonization, and a People, Culture and Learning professional. At the core of all her work, Kathy strives to center justice and equity. Kathy graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Science in Food, Nutrition and Health. Her degree was a living lab to reflect on how systems of oppression manifest and envision liberatory alternatives. She honed her ability to examine wicked problems through systems thinking, root cause analysis, and asset-based community development. Now, Kathy is pursuing a Master of Arts in Educational Studies with a focus on social justice and decolonial pedagogies, blending the learnings with her practice to contribute to the collective work in addressing the global challenges that society faces. A seasoned professional in complex institutions, Kathy’s mission is to continue disrupting the status quo with people, and in places and spaces, all while centering joy, curiosity, and connection. She welcomes people to join her in dreaming up new ways of being, thinking, and doing, and through individual and collective transformation, evolve systems to suit the needs of today\'s generation and tomorrow\'s.
