About Kathryn Sykes
Kathryn is an experienced inventor, scientist and developer of innovative molecular, genetic and biochemical technologies to manipulate the immune system towards better health. These have generated unique biomedical platforms and patents covering diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines. At Calviri she built and now leads the research team that is transforming the way we think about cancer. It can be curable and preventable. Before joining Calviri, she pursued technologies at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical that became the basis of a biotech company, ultimately acquired by Macrogenics, Inc. After transitioning to Macrogenics, she grew and directed a team in vaccine discovery. At the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University, as a professor in the School of Life Sciences, her lab studied new methods for designing functionally relevant protein arrays. She also established the labs at Healthtell, Inc. and served as V.P. of Research for 7 years, developing immunosignatures as in vitro diagnostic tests for infectious and chronic diseases. Dr. Sykes received her B.S. in Biology and Economics from Duke University and her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Genetics from Duke University Medical Center.
