Scientist with over 25 years of executive experience in helping philanthropic foundations and nonprofit research organizations advance frontier bioscience breakthroughs to make the world better. Previously served as an Executive Vice President at the Allen Institute, where for over 11 years had a leadership role spanning efforts across the Allen ecosystem. In addition to working with Allen Family Philanthropies to advise and drive over $250M of frontier bioscience philanthropic investments, also actively participated in the rapid growth of the Allen Institute from a 200 member neuroscience team to a 950 employee institution spanning a docket of moonshots from fundamental cell biology and synthetic biology to immunology. In launching the Institute’s Office of Science and Innovation, managed efforts to maximize creativity and innovation, leverage cross-institutional synergies, and develop over $75M in strategic partnerships. Prior to that, was scientific leader on the executive team of the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center, overseeing Enabling Technologies across the multi-campus effort.Earned PhD in cell and molecular biology and MBA in business strategy from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently a trustee of the Board of Directors of the Morgridge Institute and participates in multiple advisory groups within the philanthropic sector.
