ABOUT KATHRYN R. WALSH

As a seasoned scientist with a Ph.D. in Pharmacology, I have dedicated my career to advancing the field of gene therapy, particularly through the innovative use of CRISPR/Cas9 technology. My professional journey has been marked by a series of pioneering roles at Intellia Therapeutics, where I led early development projects and executed critical in vivo studies that contributed to groundbreaking publications and regulatory filings.My expertise spans a wide range of molecular techniques, including immunoblotting and ELISA, and is complemented by extensive experience in in vivo physiology and animal surgery. This unique combination of skills has allowed me to contribute significantly to pharmacological research and education.At Intellia, I spearheaded pivotal studies for clinical programs, optimized protocols for research in standard and humanized mouse models, and innovated surgical in vivo models that advanced our understanding of lipid nanoparticle CRISPR/Cas9 liver therapies. My work has been recognized in a NEJM publication and at prestigious conferences such as a leader, I have managed cross-functional teams and directed GLP-compliant studies, ensuring that our pharmacology and toxicology efforts align with both regulatory requirements and organizational goals. I have also played a key role in developing and reviewing critical regulatory documentation, such as CTA/IB/IND, and have provided expert responses to inquiries from regulatory bodies.My academic background includes a Ph.D. from Boston University School of Medicine, where I conducted extensive research on the interaction between the sympathetic nervous system and renal sodium transporters in salt-sensitive hypertension. This work led to the discovery of a novel biomarker for salt-sensitive hypertension and has opened up new avenues for potential therapeutic targets.In addition to my research and leadership roles, I am highly skilled in CRO management, data analysis, and the use of tools like Graph Pad/Prism. I am passionate about mentoring the next generation of scientists and have a proven track record of fostering academic growth and research proficiency among students.I am excited to continue contributing to the field of gene therapy and pharmacology, leveraging my deep expertise and strategic approach to drive innovation and achieve regulatory success.
