ABOUT KATHRYN LADANO

I am a Multi-Disciplined individual with expertise in music (with specialization in contemporary performance and improvisation), arts administration, executive direction, curation, academic teaching (including ensemble direction, Musical Skills, and Music History), academic administration, academic writing, Artistic Direction, Grant Writing, fund development and fundraising, strategic planning, creative conceptualization, and Finance. I have 13 years of experience in academic teaching, 10 years of experience in artistic direction, 17 years of experience in arts administration, and over 10 years of experience in fundraising and grant writing (for individuals, ensembles, and non-profit organizations in both the arts and health sectors). I also have 6 years of experience in grant adjudication, having worked for the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Region of Waterloo Arts Fund. As a musician, I am a bass clarinetist with skills in contemporary music performance, free improvisation, composition, chamber music, and various type of collaboration. Due to my experience and comfort in improvisation, I am often asked to collaborate on a wide variety of projects (including folk music, soundtracks, rock music, contemporary classical, and experimental music). I thrive in situations where I am simply asked to create and/or compliment a pre-existing framework; I do not require significant direction. As an Artistic Director, I acted as the face of the organization and was responsible for curation and conceptualizing concert seasons, outreach opportunities, strategic planning, mentorship of young artists, grant writing, fundraising, marketing, and staff, board, and volunteer recruitment. While my title was \"Artistic Director\", my work was that of an Executive Director as I was responsible for every aspect of the organization\'s successful operation. I have also created and developed new opportunities for emerging artists which are unique within the music industry. As an academic, I have experience with academic teaching, conference presentation, conference organization, course design, curriculum design, and I have written three articles which have been published in peer reviewed journals. My most recent education includes a PhD degree in Musicology from York University. Specialities: Organizational leadership Executive Direction Artistic Direction Arts administration Post-Secondary education Public Speaking Academic writing Grant writing Fundraising and fund development Budgeting and Finance Music performance
