About Kathleen Horenstein Rascon
Kathleen Rascon is a dedicated student advocate who is committed to collaboration, social justice and cultivating strategic partnerships. She currently works in the College of Engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle, in the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering as the Director of Academic Services. Kathleen is a coach, confidant, and creative leader of a team of academic advisors. She improves the operations and processes of admissions, academic progress through graduation, access to resources and funding, and community engagement and mentorship. Kathleen’s passion to make the system work for all has improved admissions and scholarship applications to be more equitable and consistent to support students who historically and systematically have been under-resourced, underrepresented, and marginalized by our Higher Education culture and practices. Since its creation, Kathleen has supported and co-leads the Human Centered Design & Engineering Department Mentorship Pod program, which pairs industry mentors with undergraduate and graduate students for networking, navigating industry, and confidence building conversations and programming. Kathleen has a History degree from the University of Washington (2010) and a Master’s of Education in Student Development from Seattle University (2013). As a former President and alumna of the Delta Zeta Sorority, Kathleen has served as an advisor to the Vice President of New Member Education, mentoring the next generation of female leaders. Becoming fluent in Higher Education-ese, Kathleen has over 10+ years in academic advising, program management and community partnerships.
