Experience

1. Environmental Scientist

   CalRecycle

   Facilitate the exchange of information between the Department, local officials and all parties involved in waste prevention, diversion, interpreting solid waste management statutes, regulations and policies. Assist jurisdictions to prepare and revise waste documents, Annual Reports and generation studies. Conduct annual and “biennial” reviews of local jurisdictions and state agencies progress in meeting the planning and waste disposal reduction mandates.I currently work directly with the cities of Fremont, Union City, Newark, Hayward, Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore in Alameda County on their waste diversion and recycling programs. I also work directly with the RecycleSmart member cities of Danville, Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Orinda, and Moraga in Contra Costa County as well as the cities of Pittsburg and Concord. The rural counties of Humboldt and Del Norte were recently added to my jurisdictional roster too. This has considerably expanded my understanding of the challenges and limitations that these remote areas face. In the past the cities of Riverside and San Bernardino had my full attention on a variety of sustainability issues ranging from establishing recycling and composting programs at large venues to presenting children\'s environmental education shows that helped establish recycling programs in several local schools. Having worked with so many geographically varied communities in California has given me a much broader perspective on the demographics, economics, and social aspects of these regions as well.
