About Kathleen M. Lynch
My drive and persistence are born out of my passion for distance running. I am not running to compete against a field of peers but to compete against myself; to bring my very best to the prairie path where I plot my runs. Every day that I lace up my shoes brings a new challenge. It could be the weather, the distance I committed to run, sore muscles, injury or just finding the time. Regardless of the challenge, I step outside, start my watch and put one foot in front of the other. I am often asked why I run so frequently and for so long. Here is my answer…I experience remarkable benefits from running beyond building strength, stamina and fitness. I am afforded the time to think without interruption. Within my own mind, I explore opportunities and challenges. I think through different perspectives and their implications. I gain a clarity that seems unattainable while sitting with distractions. Running relieves stress and builds confidence. And, most importantly, running teaches me to overcome adversity and set-backs.As a fixed income investment professional, I approach my professional life in the same fashion as running. Every day I go to work, the market delivers new challenges. I compete against myself to bring my very best to my team. I am driven to continuously broaden and deepen my investment acumen by learning new asset classes or reevaluating contributors and disruptors to performance. I am persistent in my efforts for process innovation to optimize portfolio and risk management. I empower my teammates to present their investment thesis while respectfully debating taking action. With confidence and humility, I take the opportunity to assess past mistakes, learn from them and move on. My love for distance running has taught me drive and persistence to be the most effective individual contributor; however, participating in team sports has taught me to be the most effective team player. As a mid-fielder, I developed defensive instincts with the ability to anticipate a shift to offense. I was a versatile player that could recognize a deficit and position myself to fill-in. As a teammate, I value compromise, loyalty and advocacy. I leverage this ingrained behavior in my daily professional life whether I am engaging with the investment team or leading process innovation teams. Proactively anticipating a shift in the landscape, believing that no task is too small and fostering a healthy relationship with my teammates are the attributes and values that make me who I am.
