Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and Facilities Management intersect in a shared focus to assure the workplace is safe, compliant, efficient and well maintained for all employees. As Director of EHS and Facilities, I will coordinate the efforts of both programs to strengthen this natural overlap in activities and maximize services to TGen and TGen employees by:1. Leading the EHS program including serving as the Institutional Biosafety Officer and Chemical Hygiene Officer; overseeing the activities of the Institutional Biosafety Committee; developing emergency plans for safely and effectively handling spills and/or exposures to hazardous materials; supervising the training program and directing the activities of the hazardous waste management program. Ensuring compliance with federal, state, local regulations, building codes and Institutional policies and procedures. Interfacing with external agencies such as ADEQ, CDC/USDA, Fire Department, and others. Supervising and directing the activities of EHS and Facilities personnel; assisting with hands on duties as needed; working across multiple departments to review leases, risk management and liability forms, hazardous materials permitting, and related. Write, review, update, and maintain policies, procedures, risk assessments, and other resources for the EHS and Facilities programs.5. Coordinating with leadership on space allocation and layouts, minor construction and renovations and general maintenance and upkeep of the physical spaces and equipment. Streamlining space design and workflows. Servings as a Liaison with Property Management companies, engineers, security personnel and janitorial staff. Communicating and reporting activities of the EHS and Facilities program to leadership. Conducting operations spend and annual budget forecasts for EHS and Facilities. Optimizing resources across both programs.

ABOUT KATHLEEN KENNEDY
Kathleen Kennedy spent the first 13 years of her career in the field of research. Ms. Kennedy successfully transitioned her career to Environmental Health & Safety and completed a Master\'s Degree in Public Health. In 2008, she started a new career path as the Biosafety Compliance Specialist for the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen). The Biosafety program, which encompassed all elements of EHS, covers two sites (Phoenix and Flagstaff) with the goal to reduce or prevent health/safety hazards, dangers, or accidents, ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulation and develop a strong culture of safety across the entire organization. Kathleen was twice promoted between 2008 and 2021, first to Manager of Environmental Health and Safety and then Sr. Manager of EHS. Most recently, Ms. Kennedy was promoted to Director of EHS and Facilities where she\'ll formalize the natural partnership found between the safety and facilities programs with the goal to strengthen safety and compliance, optimize resources across the institute and elevate fiscal stewardship within these programs. Ms. Kennedy is an active member of the American Biological Safety Association (ABSA) and Chaired/Co-Chaired ABSA\'s Distance Learning Committee (DLC) for over 7 years. In addition, Ms. Kennedy served as the 2014 President and Treasurer (20••••20) for the Arizona Biosafety Alliance (AZBA).
