First Year Representative @Revelle College Council

View department →

Elected as 1 of 2 representatives from a pool of 30+ applicants, involved with representing the First Year Class (Class of 2029) of Revelle College. I advocate for their needs and plan events to engage the greater student body, fostering a sense of connection and community. Recently, my partner and I planned Toothless Takeover, a winter Weeks of Welcome event in collaboration with Student-Initiated Programs at Revelle (and attained a record-breaking attendance of 205 people). Additionally, I also serve as a voting member on the council, contributing to decisions about finances and legislation that affect the council and Revelle College students as a whole. Moreover, I\'m a part of the Internal Committee, Rules Committee, and Student Services Committee to further involve myself with advocacy and initiatives that\'ll affect the Revelle community.

ABOUT KATE W.

Hello! I\'m Kate — it\'s lovely to meet you :)I am a freshman at the University of California, San Diego (majoring in Neurobiology + minoring in Literary Arts), and a recent graduate of Appleby College’s Class of 2025. I have a profound interest in the field of medicine (specifically cardiovascular health and neuroscience). I am passionate, detail-oriented, empathetic, reliable, and extremely dedicated to anything I commit to. For the longest time, I have loved medicine and its potential to create change. In both my personal and professional life, I look for ways to contribute to my local communities in hopes of bettering the world around me. I was especially able to explore medicine further through two transformative summer internships at Yale and Stanford, regarding clinical research and cardiothoracic surgery, respectively. Through these experiences, I had the privilege of working on impactful projects that addressed health inequity while being involved firsthand with medically innovative ideas that integrated technology in treatments. Beyond that, I\'m a firm believer in the power of words—narratives, stories, and dreams. Combined with my story of being a lifelong enthusiast of literature and writing, it only feels right to acknowledge the integral part these literary elements have had on my values as a person. It\'s why I\'ve expressed myself through creative pursuits, but also the \"why\" in my pursuit of a medically related career—to continue to explore, honour, and connect—to see beyond the science and preserve the humanity in medicine.
