About Kathleen Conner

I recently started a new position as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at California State University Dominguez Hills where I teach a variety of undergraduate courses. I also manage my own laboratory that researches the effects of drug exposures on development.I am a first generation college graduate from California State University, San Bernardino with degrees in Biopsychology and Bioinformatics. I graduated with my Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of California, Riverside in 2024. I have TAed/currently teach a variety of classes, mostly in the neuroscience and psychology fields. I have also worked as a student mentor in various programs assisting undergraduate and incoming graduate students (international, first-generation, non-traditional, LGBTQ+, and other historically marginalized students) with their transition into graduate school. I equip graduate students with information on procedures, campus resources, networking and career building opportunities. I provide undergraduates with resources for graduate programs, as well as feedback on application materials. I also offer my mentees a safe space to discuss any issues that may arise throughout their educational journey. My graduate research focused on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs), looking at how drinking alcohol during or around the time of pregnancy affects offspring brain and behavioral development. PSA: Drinking while pregnant affects the baby\'s behavior, gene expression, and connections in the brain - These effects can extend out 3 generations to where the great grandchildren are affected, even if they never drink. Drinking while breastfeeding also has a negative effect on development, and a father\'s consumption of alcohol before conception can also effect the brain and behavioral development of the offspring, even if the mother never drinks.*Full Resume/CV available upon request
