Drug Discovery leader with more than 25 years of combined academic and pharmaceutical research experience. Held senior leadership responsibilities within all stages of drug discovery including target validation, hit identification and advancement of leads through pre-clinical development and IND submission. Held several project and senior leadership roles guiding cross-functional drug discovery teams in the therapeutic areas of cystic fibrosis, pain, inflammation, metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. Efforts led to multiple drug candidates currently in various stages of pre-clinical and clinical development and the discovery of NESINA (Alogliptin), a DPPIV inhibitor currently approved in multiple countries for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.Built and directed Structural Biology Departments at Takeda, Dart Neuroscience and Vertex responsible for Molecular Biology, Protein Expression & Purification, CryoEM, Crystallography, NMR and various Biophysical Assay Development. Drove the development of novel biophysical technologies in GPCR and Ion Channel drug discovery resulting in several de novo 3D structures and multiple ligand/receptor co-complex structures that led to “best-in-class” pre-clinical compounds.Ph.D. in Crystallography from the Catholic University of Leuven (KUL), Belgium and post-doctoral experience from The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI).
