About Kate Stein

I am a climate risk and insurance leader who promotes innovation through collaboration. I work across sectors to drive investment in climate adaptation and advance insurance as a tool to build resilience for all.My interest in climate and insurance began in Miami. As a climate journalist, and then as a resilience and sustainability officer, I saw firsthand how insurers, reinsurers and communities on the front lines of climate risk all stand to gain through increased community resilience to climate and extreme weather events.This insight led me to London, the heart of the global insurance industry. I now work to \'bridge\' the worlds of insurance, government, nonprofits and academia, driving partnership opportunities that enable frontline communities and the insurance industry alike to collaboratively adapt to climate change.My diverse experience has made me a skilled strategist, communicator and facilitator, who leans into data analysis and modelling as a starting point - but not the end-all - for decision-making in the face of uncertainty.I earned an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where my research focused on the development of risk management strategies that combine environmental risk modelling with qualitative input from governments, community stakeholders and other non-technical experts.I have been recognized as a Future Climate Leader by the Aspen Institute (2022), and regularly contribute thought leadership pieces and academic articles to a range of institutions and media outlets.
