About Katherine Eban
I’m Rolling Stone\'s national investigative correspondent, formerly a Vanity Fair special correspondent and bestselling author. My second book, Bottle of Lies: The Inside Story of the Generic Drug Boom, was a 2019 New York Times bestseller and one of 100 notable books of 2019. Based on a decade of reporting and thousands of internal FDA documents, Bottle of Lies is a narrative investigation that reveals fraud and life-threatening dangers on a global scale: articles and books, including on pharmaceutical counterfeiting, generic drug data fraud, gun trafficking, and coercive CIA interrogations, have won international attention and numerous awards. These include from the National Association of Science Writers, the Overseas Press Club of America, Investigative Reporters and Editors, and the Association of Health Care Journalists. The 2019 movie, The Report, was inspired by my 2007 Vanity Fair article, “Rorschach and Awe,” about coercive CIA interrogations. I have also written for Fortune, the New York Times, Self, The Nation and the New York Observer. My work has been featured on 60 Minutes, Nightline, NPR, and other national news programs. I lecture frequently on the topic of pharmaceutical integrity. My first book, Dangerous Doses: a True Story of Cops, Counterfeiters and the Contamination of America’s Drug Supply, was a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers pick. A 2015 Andrew Carnegie Fellow, I have also been awarded grants from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Fund for Investigative Journalism and the Alicia Patterson Foundation. Educated at Brown University and Oxford, where I was a Rhodes Scholar, I live in Brooklyn with my husband, two daughters and our Newfoundland, Romeo.
