ABOUT KATHERINE TORRES
At the core, I want to empower communities by expanding access to education and amplifying their voices. As an aspiring journalist, I focus on human-centered storytelling that serves communities often left out of mainstream narratives, particularly immigrant and Latino communities. Through immigrant and refugee non-profit work, civil rights media, and documentary work, I’ve honed skills in bilingual reporting, video production, and ethical storytelling. My goal is to make complex issues accessible and ensure important stories reach the people who need them most. I carry this same mission into the classroom, where I’m on track to earn my teaching license and work with recently arrived immigrant youth, helping them understand, question, and think critically about the world around them. Whether through journalism or teaching, my goal is to equip communities with the tools, stories, and knowledge they need to be informed, heard, and empowered.
