About Katie Bowden
A native Texan, Katie traveled to Kerala, India on a Fulbright-Nehru Research Scholarship to learn the language and history of St. Thomas Christians living on the Malabar Coast. In addition to taking classes and attending prayers, She visited ancientchurches to catalogue Syriac inscriptions. After transcribing and translating theseinscriptions, She was able to show how the ancient language is used not only forliturgy but also as a means of preserving history. She shared her findings with hermonastic community as well as schools in India and the United States by singingSyriac Hymns. Upon returning to the United States She was hired as a research anddata analyst for Cushman and Wakefield in New York City. Over the next few yearsKatie hopes to continue her research and gain a better understanding of the SyriacLanguage.
