ABOUT KATHERINE RATCLIFFE
I advise high-net-worth individuals, families, and business owners on complex estate, trust, and tax planning matters, with a focus on preserving family harmony and fostering each client’s own personal values. My practice includes drafting comprehensive, bespoke estate planning documents—including Wills, Powers of Attorney, Personal Directives, and Trust Indentures—as well as providing strategic advice on trust and estate administration, business succession, and post-mortem tax planning.I work closely with clients’ accountants, financial advisors, and other professionals to develop integrated, tax-efficient solutions that align with their long-term personal and financial objectives. My work often includes reorganizing corporate and trust structures, including implementing estate freezes and assisting with the formation of special purpose trusts—including alter ego trusts, joint spousal trusts, and Henson trusts for individuals with disabilities.In addition to my legal practice, I serve as Deputy Chair of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Canada’s Calgary Branch and regularly contribute to professional programming and publications.I’m honoured to be recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada™ for Trusts and Estates (2024-26) and Tax Law (2026).
