About Katherine Dorey

As a current student at the University of Connecticut pursuing a degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics, I am studying to become an elementary school teacher after graduation. My interest in studying elementary education developed through my coursework in child development classes, my experience babysitting, my internship with my third grade teacher, and my years of coaching gymnastics and working with children. Through my work experience, internship, and leadership roles I have developed patience, problem solving, lesson planning, and communication skills that are necessary to succeed in work with children and in education.    Substitute for grades K-4, and offer assistance to teachers classes for grades K-4, along with working with other departments such as the Access program- Implemented lesson plans left by teachers and created engaging activities instantly when lesson plans were unavailable or when technology was not working- Managed classrooms of up to 25 students while ensuring a positive and productive learning environment- Adapted quickly to diverse classroom environments and grade levels, while maintaining control and engagement among different groups of students- Supported students with varying learning needs and disabilities to create an inclusive school environment and make everyone feel included
