About Kat King

Kat King (she/her) is building immersive science-fiction stories that explore perception, mental health, and ethical technology across film, music, and XR. A 100% disabled U.S. Army veteran living with treatment-resistant schizophrenia and complex PTSD, Kat’s work sits at the intersection of immersive storytelling, neurotechnology, and lived experience with chronic psychosis—designed not for spectacle, but survival. Her background spans signals intelligence, linguistics, education, theater, and filmmaking, giving her a multidisciplinary lens on the future of immersive media and human-centered technology. Through CatheXis Films, Kat is developing [GLASS]ST[AR]S™, a queer, neurodivergent-centered science-fiction universe set in a future Seattle rebuilt beneath the earth. The project spans novels, film, XR experiences, and music, exploring consciousness, perception, identity, and humanity’s evolving relationship with artificial intelligence.[GLASS]ST[AR]S™ is a transmedia IP exploring schizophrenia, altered perception, and ethical technology through a mixture of film, XR, and immersive storytelling.Alongside her narrative work, Kat is developing PerceptAR™, an augmented-reality perception support tool designed to help individuals navigating psychosis ground themselves in shared reality, access support resources, and connect safely with others. The project explores how spatial computing can be used not as escapism, but as a tool for reality anchoring, safety, and self-advocacy.Kat speaks publicly on ethical XR design, perception, and mental health, and is a scheduled speaker at Augmented World Expo 2026, where she will present on designing immersive technologies for people living with schizophrenia and chronic psychosis. Her work advocates for a future where neurodivergent and disabled creators don’t just participate in immersive technology—they lead it.The only way out is through->Learn more: linktr.ee/katkinghere<-Join Kat’s Session at AWE USA 2026Long Beach, CA June 15-18JUNE 16th 3:40pm PST ROOM 102BDesigning Equitable XR for Schizophrenia Survival
