About Katharine Chavez
I am a Government and Philosophy student at Harvard University with a strong interest in public service, law, and civic engagement. I bring a background rooted in academic excellence, leadership, and community advocacy, developed through years of involvement in student government, nonprofit work, and local service initiatives.At Harvard, I am involved with the Harvard Crimson, the Phillips Brooks House Association Small Claims Court, the Harvard Dems, PRE, HIR Business Board, Women in Buissness, and The COOP. I currently work as a Recruitment Ambassador on the Access and Outreach Team at Harvard\'s Admissions and Financial Aid Office, where I travel to local high schools to encourage prospective students to apply. Additionally I lead official tours for potential appliants, engaging with students and faculty while representing the University.Previously, I interned with Bet Tzedek Legal Services, a nonprofit law firm serving vulnerable communities in Los Angeles County. There, I supported intake operations, organized legal case files, and assisted clients navigating issues including bankruptcy, conservatorships, guardianships, and senior outreach—experiences that strengthened my interest in public interest law and legal advocacy.My leadership experience began in high school, where I served as President of La Habra Leos, Co-Service Officer for National Honor Society, and Co-Vice President and Secretary of the California Scholarship Federation. I also founded Sonora High School’s first-ever Dress Drive, securing over in donated formalwear and helping more than 50 students attend prom with confidence.I am passionate about equity, civic participation, and building institutions that better serve underrepresented communities. I am eager to continue developing my skills through opportunities in law, public policy, political organizing, and nonprofit leadership.
