ABOUT KATERI DORAN

I\'m an incoming undergraduate student pursuing independent applied mathematics research, authoring science writing for a wide audience, and mentoring younger students in STEM and the arts. I\'m drawn to interdisciplinary areas of academic and industry research - in particular, implementing quantitative and computational techniques in the life sciences.+ RESEARCH: I\'m developing computational tools to analyze musical relationships mathematically. I refined the computational structure of a coronavirus protein while a scientific research intern at MIT in 2024. I\'ve built a phylogenetic tree from DNA sequence data to analyze carnivorous plant evolution and used computing to model fungal disease spread in cacao trees.+ WRITING: I\'m contributing to a popular book on mathematics based on public lectures given by various mathematicians. I regularly post popular science & math explainers on my Substack publications,\"The Winking Torus\" and \"Circle & Triangle.\" I worked as a math blogger for a youth summer program in 2022 and 2023, and my work has been published in the Girls\' Angle Bulletin.+ TEACHING: I\'m currently working as a youth research mentor for the DREAMs (Diversity in Research Experiences Across Mathematics) Institute online summer program with PIMS (Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences). I\'ve worked as a counselor for summer programs in mathematics and in music, inspiring young students.
