ABOUT KATE MUETING

Kate Mueting is the Firm Administrative Partner at Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight and Co-Chair of its Discrimination and Harassment Practice Group.Kate represents individuals and classes in discrimination, harassment, and retaliation matters. Her achievements include- Securing a $10M settlement in a class action against KPMG- Negotiating a seven-figure exit package for a female equity partner with discrimination claims- Persuading the EEOC to issue findings of pay and race discrimination- Renegotiating non-compete agreements and valuing stock options for executives- Obtaining paid maternity leave after an employer denied it. Kate earned her law degree with Highest Honors from the University of Iowa College of Law, where she was Senior Articles Editor for the Iowa Law Review. She also holds a Bachelor of Journalism with Highest Distinction from the University of Nebraska. Kate is an adjunct professor at the University of Iowa College of Law, co-chair of the Women’s Bar Association, and a member of the Legal Network for Gender Equity and the National Women’s Law Center Leadership Advisory Committee.Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Fast Company, and more. She has spoken internationally on topics like gender discrimination, pay equity, diversity, and bias in the legal profession.Before joining Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight Kate clerked for the Honorable Michael J. Melloy of the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Honorable Richard J. Leon of the District Court for the District of Columbia. She also worked at Covington & Burling, DC’s Children’s Law Center, and as a Team Leader with AmeriCorps.
