Developed 3 sets of written recommendations for financial institutions on how to improve their policies and practices to better prevent elder fraud. Co-led an interagency working group with representatives from 6 federal agencies and the states to issue joint guidance on elder fraud in 2024. Conducted a nationally representative survey of consumers of all ages, with oversamples of older adults, to analyze various dimensions of consumers’ relationships with their financial institutions. Conduct community education and outreach, including creating written reports and educational resources for older consumers and key intermediaries, presenting at least 25 webinars and conference sessions per year, and disseminating resources through collaboration with other CFPB offices and external stakeholder partners. Developed 2 guides to help relatives of people living in long-term care prevent and report elder fraud and a guide to help consumers understand the benefits of identifying a trusted contact person for their bank account. Engage in research, interpret economic, social and financial trends and issues affecting older adults, and synthesize the results of research to agency senior leadership, policymakers and the public. Identify problems facing older adults and gaps in policies, and provide guidance to agency leadership about potential solutions. Coordinate with federal and state agencies and organizations to promote consistent, efficient and effective consumer protection efforts.
