ABOUT KATE AITCHISON

As a proud Midlander I moved to Yorkshire to study German and English at Leeds University and liked the North so much that I have never made the journey back down the M1. As a natural progression from studying languages, I took a graduate role at KPMG and have now worked in private client tax for nearly 20 years with a varied mix of clients over that time. I specialise in providing tax advice and support to individuals and their families, related businesses and trusts. Every day and every client is different and I am proud and privileged to be given the insight into my clients lives to enable to give holistic and complete advice for them and their families.I particularly enjoy working with family businesses and leading the support RSM can offer to find solutions to the various issues they face. I also work with business owners as individuals around succession planning and transaction support, making sure that both the business and the shareholders are in great financial shape for the future.I have (unbelievably) never got bored working in tax as I work with a wide variety of different private businesses and entrepreneurs. As a result, I advise on a wide range of issues, including:• Income Tax;• Capital Gains Tax;• Inheritance Tax and succession issues;• Trusts;• Family investment companies;• Investment structuring;• Tax residency issues;• Employee ownership trusts;• Private business issues, e.g. cash extraction, restructuring, demergers, incentivising employees.• Transaction support and planning for shareholders pre and post deal.Aside from the tax aspects of my day to day role, I am a Champion in the Empower Network as part of our Diversity and Inclusion programme and coordinate events and initiatives to support colleagues in making the most of their careers.Outside of work and having successfully dodged PE at school, I married a fitness fan and have subsequently had two boys which meant that I needed to up my game and hit the gym. Nobody was more surprised than me when I actually enjoyed it. In recent years as well as lifting weights I have been cajoled into running several 10K races, completing Tough Mudder, and competing in a charity boxing match. I have also strangely enjoyed training for Hyrox Fitness Competition and will be up to my fourth event later this year. In my recently rediscovered free time, I have been going to live music events, playing taxi for the kids and trying to successfully do some DIY around the
