ABOUT KATE YOUNG
I\'m a business psychologist with over 20 years at the intersection of psychology, technology, and talent, spanning HR tech, EdTech, and professional services. My career has taken me from psychometric R&D to leading global assessment projects, from hands-on consulting to building ethical, data-driven hiring products. Along the way I\'ve worked across startups and multinationals on inclusive, evidence-based talent solutions, from competency frameworks and leadership development to AI-scored interviews and large-scale assessment strategies. Roles at Sapia.ai, Multiverse, Heidrick & Struggles, Cappfinity, and Talogy have given me a view of this market from almost every angle: buyer, practitioner, and researcher. In March 2026 I founded The Hiring Science Studio, an independent advisory practice working at the intersection of occupational psychology, psychometrics, and AI governance in hiring. We help organisations make smarter, more evidenced decisions about the hiring tools they use. That means asking the questions a lot of people are quietly skipping: what is this tool actually measuring, what is it inferring, and is the difference doing any harm. Our work spans independent process review, AI tool due diligence, and helping teams get a grip on the AI already in use across their hiring stack, often without anyone really knowing. I speak and write regularly about responsible AI in assessment, fairness as a systemic property rather than a feature, and the gap between what hiring tools claim and what they actually do. I try to bring scientific depth to it without losing the pragmatism the work needs to be useful. If you\'re navigating any of this, whether you\'re a talent leader evaluating tools, an HR or people analytics practitioner thinking about AI, or just someone who finds this stuff interesting, I\'d love to connect.
