Particular engineering experience:MARINE AND SHIPPING Seafastening Design: Analysis of loads to various standards and design of suitable seafastening systems to ensure safe carriage. Motion Analysis: Analysis of vessel and load motions during subsea deployment. METOCEAN General: Understanding of Metocean parameters and their measurement, meaning and use. Integration of Metocean parameters with Engineering. Waves and wave spectra: Modelling of wave propagation into shallow waters and surge/beach zones. Development of spectra from input winds and other parameters. Beach and Coastal Flows: Analysis of flows on (and into the substructure) of beaches and analysis of coastal flows. Beach Protection: Modelling of waves on coarse beaches, assessment of condition of coastal defences, and assessment of adaptability to morphological change and sea level rise. Economic assessment of coastal works and wave overtopping. SUBSEA and OFFSHORE Mooring and Risers: Design and analysis of mooring and risers arrangements using Orcaflex. Pipelines: Structural design of subsea pipelines and assessment of probability of impact and effects of impact. Motion and Acceleration Analysis: Calculation of forces due to motions by a range of techniques. Finite Element Analysis: Design of ship structure and other structures to recognised codes. Corrosion analysis: Analysing and defining cathodic protection for subsea structures.ART In addition to the engineering work I examined life at the shipyards along the waterfront of Aberdeen, in collaboration with Naval Architect and Marine Consultant Tymor Marine, through printmaking and oil painting techniques.
