ABOUT KATE MCLEOD

I am a playwright, lyricist, librettist. All of my 22 plays have been performed and/or produced in New York and throughout the Northeast and in London. My education includes a BA in English Literature and an MFA in theatre from The Catholic University of America. I started my life in the theater as an actress. I toured South America with USIA for six months performing shows with three other actor-singer-puppeteer-magician-musicians. I worked as an actor in Boston and New York. I created a program called,\"What\'s Your Story?\", a 15-hour workshop with 10 at-risk teenage girls from a group home at the Hudson Opera House. Currently, I am working on a musical which will have a reading in 2023. For 20 years to pay the bills, I divided my brain and covered the auto industry as a reporter. My byline: Forbes Autos, The New York Daily News, CoolHunting.com, CEO, MotorMatters syndicate, Autobytel and Edmunds.com among others. I wrote auto reviews as well as stories on regulation, safety, design, and marketing. I am always ready to drive a Porsche, but my focus was on helping people with mortgages and kids choose an appropriate vehicle. I wrote in plain language and did not use jargon figuring that real people could care less about 0-60. My checkered career in media includes jobs at Institutional Investor, Progressive Grocer, Forbes and Time. I am the author of \"Beetlemania, The Car That Captured the Hearts of Millions\" published by Smithmark. I was recruited by TEDx to coach speakers. It was a revelation to me that all of my experiences as a theatre person and a journalist could come together to produce what one of my coachlings called a TED whisperer. I help individuals with important and relevant ideas focus their talk by editing and then getting them up on their feet.
