Responsibilities include delivering lectures and laboratory experiences on topics such as nutrition for health and disease, plant-based nutrition, and food safety. Preparing course materials such as syllabi, presentations, assignments, and handouts, as well as organizing class materials in the Canvas learning management system. Instruction is tailored to students’ abilities and learning styles, employing flexible, student-centered methods that promote critical thinking, lifelong learning, cultural sensitivity, and equity.The role involves developing and assessing student learning outcomes, creating and updating course and program curricula, and overseeing program planning, review, and learning outcomes. Faculty leadership duties include serving on committees, participating in faculty hiring and evaluations, leading advisory committee meetings, and collaborating on department class schedules. Building community partnerships for curriculum updates, job placements, and scholarships is another key aspect, as is acting as a faculty liaison for high school CCAP programs.Additional responsibilities include writing grant proposals to secure funding, planning and managing long-term goals for the nutrition and culinary departments, and conducting culinary classes at the California Men’s Colony to teach practical skills, improve health, and reduce recidivism.
