ABOUT KATE EVERETT
I started my post-doc career at University College London where my primary research focus was common childhood epilepsy. This has continued to be a major research interest and has led to my involvement with the pan-European investigation into the functional genomics and neurobiology of epilepsy, EPICURE. My interest in common, complex disorders further encompasses the multifactorial condition, infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS). IHPS has a classic sex-modified threshold mode of inheritance suggestive of multiple interacting causes. Beyond these common disorders, I have worked closely with clinical geneticists at a number of Healthcare Trusts attempting to provide a genetic diagnosis for children with rare, severe neurodevelopmental disorders. Although medically these conditions are all quite different, my expertise lies in applying logical gene mapping and mutation identification processes to each scenario.I now have significant educational experience and a broad-ranging remit. At the undergraduate level, I teach genetics to Biomedical Science and Medicine students including a specialist final year module in Human Medical Genetics. At the postgraduate level, I am heavily involved with the MSc Genomic Medicine.
