About Kate Chase-Ophoff

I am a law enforcement professional with a passion for community engagement, and training. I’ve been an employee of the Kent County Sheriff’s Office for over 14 years and am a Defensive Tactics and Fitness and Wellness Instructor. I’m currently a Community Policing Deputy in the East Precinct, serving Ada, Cascade and Grand Rapids Townships. I have partnered with community members, stakeholders, business leaders and township personnel to offer safe, fun and engaging events for Ada Township. Since 2024, I have co-authored numerous incident action plans (IAP) supported by Kent County Emergency Management, an initiative which has increased the safety of events by roughly 30%. I take great pride in serving the community where I was born and raised and am grateful for the network of colleagues and friends this position has provided. I teach Subject Control and Fitness and Wellness at Grand Rapids Community College’s Police Academy and was a Movement Science Adjunct Faculty Member at Grand Valley State University from 20••••23. I have over 12 years experience teaching physical defense and am a training expert in sexual assault and abduction prevention techniques and strategies. I have provided self defense education to approximately collegiate women and served as Michigan State Director of RAD-Rape Aggression Systems from 20••••23. Additionally, I have over 5 years of Emergency Communications/911, as well as former Protective Services experience.
