About Karyn Gallant
I am a rock mechanics engineer with over 17 years of combined operational and consulting experience in open pit and underground mining. My specific areas of interest and expertise include rock mass characterization, instability evaluation and mitigation, development of geotechnical design criteria for underground mine planning, ground support design, and GCMP development. In addition to my consulting experience, I previously led the geotechnical team at BHP Billiton’s Ekati Diamond mine (both underground and open pit operations) for 7 years. I have extensive experience with sub-level caving and sub-level retreat mining methods, championing fatal risk controls, risk assessments as well as open pit design, stability evaluation, remediation design/work and monitoring system design/analysis. My diverse mining background gives me a valuable perspective to deliver both technically sound and practical solutions to mining challenges.
