ABOUT KARUNA PANDE JOSHI

I am a Professor of Information Systems at UMBC. I am also the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and the UMBC Director of the Center for Accelerated Real Time Analytics (CARTA). I am an ELATES Fellow 2025-26.My research is in the broad area of Data Science and AI. I am interested in Cloud Automation and Data Security and Compliance, Text Analytics, and Health IT; with particular emphasis on automating cloud legal compliance and developing multi-authority secure cloud services. My research has been funded by NSF, DoD, ONR, IBM, GE, and Cisco among others. I have published over 80 papers. I teach classes on Data Science/Big Data, Databases and Software Engineering. I also have over fifteen years of experience in the software industry primarily as an IT Manager. I have managed database systems and design of applications in various domains including Web Content/Document Management, CRM/Helpdesks systems, Facilities systems, Change management systems, etc. I have managed large teams of DBA/software developers, technical writers, customer support specialists, etc.Specialties: Legal Text Analytics, Cloud Services Automation, Data Science, Health IT Predictive Analytics, Database Management, Change/Risk management, Content/Document lifecycle management, Facilities systems, Outsourcing
