ABOUT KARAN ARORA

Karan Arora is a Project Manager and Senior Traffic Operations Engineer with WSP in Canada, with over 12 years of experience in traffic engineering and transportation planning. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and an advanced degree in civil engineering with a specialization in transportation and traffic engineering from the University of Calgary. He is registered as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer with the Transportation Professional Certification Board. Karan has been involved in various high-profile, large-scale projects across Canada, such as the Green Line LRT in Calgary, Valley Line LRT in Edmonton, Pattullo Bridge Project in Greater Vancouver, and Highway 413 in Greater Toronto. His expertise includes designing and implementing solutions to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion through optimized signal timings and coordination. He also develops strategic plans for managing traffic during roadworks, major events, or emergencies to minimize disruptions and enhance safety. Additionally, he works on projects aimed at improving overall transportation efficiency and safety in urban and rural environments. Karan is also known for his modeling expertise.He has experience in various simulation software including PTV VISSIM, VISUM, VISTRO, EMME INRO, Paramics, Synchro, SimTraffic and Sidra. He is also experienced in design softwares and applications, such as, AutoTURN, AutoCAD, MX Road, MX Railways, StormCAD, SeverCAD, ArcGIS, QGIS, MATLAB, C++, VBA and CorelDraw. As a part of a research project, Karan singlehandedly developed an integrated control strategy which involves the combination of variable speed limit with hard shoulder running for Deerfoot Trail in Calgary.
