ABOUT KARLIJN BURRIDGE
I am a Physician Associate, educator, and national leader in obesity medicine with more than 15 years of experience spanning clinical care, education, program development, and organizational leadership. My work is driven by a deep commitment to advancing compassionate, evidence-based, and comprehensive obesity care.I am the Founder and CEO of Gaining Health, where I support clinicians and healthcare organizations in building, optimizing, and sustaining high-quality obesity management programs. Through this work, I’ve had the opportunity to develop innovative clinical and educational initiatives, speak nationally and internationally, publish on obesity-related topics, and collaborate with leaders across the field to help move obesity medicine forward.I hold the Certificate of Advanced Education in Obesity Management and am a Master Fellow of the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA). I currently serve as Vice President of the Illinois Obesity Society Board of Trustees and as a Trustee for the Obesity Medicine Association. I am also the Co-Founder and Past President of PAs in Obesity Medicine, an organization dedicated to advancing the role of physician associates in this specialty.I’ve been honored to receive several national recognitions, including The Obesity Society’s Practitioner of the Year Award (2025), America’s Top PAs (2023), and multiple OMA awards, including the Committee Leadership Award (2017), the Vernon B. Astler Award (2018), and the Dr. Raymond E. Dietz Meritorious Service Award (2020).In addition to my leadership and consulting work, I am the host of The Gaining Health Podcast: Revolutionizing Healthcare with Obesity Medicine, where I highlight emerging research, clinical innovation, and the voices shaping the future of obesity care.Clinically, I serve as the Director of Clinical Education, Obesity, at Healthy4Life in Naperville, Illinois—an evidence-based, multidisciplinary obesity care program. In this role, I remain involved in direct patient care while leading staff and patient education, program development, marketing, and strategic expansion.Across all of my roles, my mission is simple: to improve access to high-quality obesity care, elevate education and advocacy in obesity medicine, and help reshape how obesity is understood and treated within healthcare.
