ABOUT KARL FLINN

I started on the railway in 1996 based at Barnham Pway which is part of the Brighton DU. My first role was Operative working mainly nights in the production team completing all levels of maintenance work, after a few years I moved to the Track Examination Team to take up the role has Technician. I was then tasked with taking on the role of inspecting all the GCC sites for the whole of the Brighton DU which developed my knowledge of other areas and disciplines (ultrasonic) I then returned to Barnham to take over the vacant Team Leader role. I was next offered the opportunity of becoming a Track Quality Supervisor for the Sussex route which I did for just over a year. I returned to Barnham Pway to take up the role of Assistant Section Manager before eventually becoming the Section Manager (3 years) after this I then moved to Brighton CED to take the role of Assistant Track Maintenance Engineer and after 6 months became the Track Maintenance Engineer For Brighton DU. I then went onto cover the Infrastructure Maintenance Engineer for 2 years at Brighton. My current role is Area Services Manager for the Sussex Route.
