About Karina Vasquez
After nearly two decades in media and marketing building campaigns for brands like Johnson & Johnson, eBay, Verizon, and Colgate, I took a step back to ask what kind of work I wanted my children to see me doing. Today, I serve as Communications Director at Connected Chef, a Queens-based nonprofit making farm-fresh food accessible to all. I lead storytelling and strategy that amplify the voices of New York-based farmers and help communities understand their power in designing better food systems. Certified in Arboriculture through the New York Botanical Garden, I also work hands-on as a citizen pruner and outdoor educator, teaching elementary school students the fundamentals of gardening, ecology, and plant care while leading the design and maintenance of their school garden.I’m continuing to grow my knowledge and skills in horticulture, driven by a desire to spend more of my professional life outdoors, contributing directly to a more sustainable and equitable future for the next generation.
