ABOUT KARIM OMAR LARA AYUB
I am an Operations Officer in the Strategy and Operations unit within the World Bank\'s Planet Vice Presidency, based in Washington D.C. In this role, I manage a portfolio of global advisory services, analytics, and trust funds focused on the sustainable management of natural resources, including water and forests. Throughout my career at the World Bank, I have held several key positions, including Program Manager for the EU2020 Programmatic Trust Fund across European Union (EU) countries, and as Operations Officer for the EU Country Management Unit (CMU) and the Europe and Central Asia-EU Partnership team, based in Brussels. Additionally, I have served as an Operations Officer for the Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela CMU, based in Mexico City. Before rejoining the World Bank in 2016, I was Chief of Staff and Senior Adviser to the Director General at Banobras, Mexico’s largest development bank. My professional experience also includes roles as a Trade and Investment Officer at the British Embassy in Mexico and as Visiting Researcher at the Institute of Forest and Agricultural Management and Certification (Imaflora) in Brazil. I hold a master’s degree in development studies from the University of Oxford, where I was a Clarendon Scholar at Balliol College, and a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Tecnologico de Monterrey.
