ABOUT KARI TRAYLOR

I am a Post-Baccalaureate Fellow in the Plant Humanities at Dumbarton Oaks, where I explore the intersection of environmental justice, law, food, and transnational history through regular essays published via JSTOR Daily. As an aspiring environmental lawyer, this work informs a multifaceted understanding of modern environmental issues and potential solutions to problems of environmental injustice. I am also a recent graduate with an MPhil in World History from the University of Cambridge and an A.B. in Social Studies from Harvard College. My postgraduate dissertation interrogates the role of environmental knowledge and stewardship in the market activity of enslaved individuals in British Barbados during the early 19th century. More broadly, my research interests include Black Atlantic environmental history, legal history, and the historical, sociological, and political factors that contribute to the racialized conditions of today\'s climate crisis.
