About Kari Roynesdal

Kari Roynesdal is an urban designer whose work centers on community-based practices at the intersection of planning and landscape architecture. Her experience includes park master plans, civic, institutional, and residential landscapes, transit-oriented development, and public engagement. She holds dual master’s degrees in Landscape Architecture and Urban & Environmental Planning from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and a BS in Architecture from the University of Virginia. Currently, she is a Landscape/Urban Designer at HNTB based in NYC, where her design work focuses on climate resilience, equitable public spaces, and community engagement for transit-oriented development projects across the tri-state area.Her research project Queer Ecologies, supported by the GSD’s Penny White Project Fund, examined intersections among queer spaces, activism, and urban ecology—focusing on the erasure of queer spatial histories from public parks. While at Harvard, Kari also served as co-editor of Womxn in Design’s Bibliography on Identity Theories, a curated collection of scholarship examining twelve identity frameworks and how they shape the ways we design and experience the built environment. She currently serves as a co-chair of Feminist Spatial Practices, a global collective that highlights, shares, and nurtures feminist practices in art, design, architecture and activism.
