Karen James Sloan is a Senior Field Producer for CNBC in the Washington D.C. Bureau. She is a seasoned communications and media executive with decades of experience working in deadline-driven environments with complex teams and high-profile principals, from CEOs to Cabinet secretaries to President Obama. Proven leadership in project management, cross-departmental coordination, concept ideation and storytelling. She just completed an intensive Executive MBA program. As a newsroom insider, she leverages her skills to boost brands through effective media strategy, powerful storytelling, and dynamic visual content. Karen knows what reporters need because she spent her entire career producing their stories as well as distinguished local newscasts. She also has a knack for finding the building blocks to weave an impressive narrative related to the news of the day or of the moment. In her current position at CNBC, she regularly interviews lawmakers, members of the administration and industry leaders on business-related policy such as technology reform and implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI). She leverages her contacts as resources to stay ahead of possible legislation. Confirmed information is then turned into thought-provoking stories that are later showcased on CNBC\'s daily programs helping to inform the network\'s audience of the minute-by-minute happenings on Capitol Hill and to spark further conversation on the topic. Karen has spent 20+ years covering national politics and financial markets on deadline and it has taught her to hone complex issues to relatable messages for the web and social media. However, one of the most rewarding opportunities in Karen\'s career, so far, has been producing three network quality interviews with former President Barack Obama. Before joining CNBC, Karen did a stint in local news, working at three local TV stations around the country. First, in Orlando at WCPX-TV as a Satellite Coordinator and writer and then she worked in Chicago at NBC\'s WMAQ-TV as a Satellite Coordinating New Producer. Karen\'s last local news station was Baltimore\'s WBAL-TV, where she produced several newscasts. Karen began her career in New York City where she worked at Good Day New York and CBS This Morning, Karen is a graduate of St. John\'s University and a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated.
