About Karen Ervin

Karen has worked in the fields of molecular and cell biology for over twenty years. Originally she started in the neurobiology field studying neurotransmitter release and intracellular vesicular trafficking in Richard Scheller\'s lab at Stanford University. In 2001, she came to Genentech with Richard and continued to study the molecular mechanisms involved in membrane trafficking and vesicular transport, as well as many projects involved in early stage drug development at Genentech.In 2014, Karen moved to Product Development Regulatory Oncology on a one-year rotation where she managed Regulatory activities in all phases of clinical trials. In 2015, she moved back to Research and is currently a Principal Project Manager for the Research Review Committee in gRED.Karen is also very active as a public servant, serving on the Pacifica School District Board of Trustees from 2006 to 2010 and elected to the Pacifica City Council in 2012. In 2015, she served as Mayor of Pacifica where she served until 2016.Currently she serves on the Board of Directors for Pacificans Care (since 2011), working to support multiple nonprofit social service organizations in Pacifica including the Pacifica Resource Center, Pacifica Senior Services, Pacifica Youth Service Bureau, and Pacifica Child Care Services.

    Responsibilities:• Establish and maintain functionally integrated project/committee schedules to enable scientific decision making and ensure accurate inputs is provided by business partners; ensures alignment with project sub-teams and functional partners.• Facilitate project team/committee meetings, cross-functional communication and decision-making, ensuring alignment with internal and external stakeholders• Schedule presentations to the committee within prescribed review periods according to the portfolio, chair’s request, other business needs, etc. in a prioritized fashion.• Setup the meetings; Take notes throughout committee presentation and closed-door sessions; Draft meeting minutes for the chairs and assemble comments into one document before final circulation.• Communicate, document, and archive project team/committee activities and decisions; act as a primary contact for project team/committee-related information• Identifies, recommends and implements opportunities for streamlining team and business processes• Attends Imaging Strategy Meetings to provide portfolio updates and direction on portfolio decisions directly affecting Imaging Team.• Assist with gRED GAP projects for labs on an as needed basis.
