ABOUT KAREN WETHERALL
I\'ve worked as a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) for over 30 years primarily counseling clients on improving their nutrition & developing a healthy lifestyle. My career began in Boston as a WIC nutritionist at the MGH Health Centers counseling pregnant women and children. I moved to MGH\'s main campus to develop an experiential learning program for clients in Cardiac Rehab; expanding a heart healthy cooking series and supermarket tour. I had the opportunity to teach medical students using a case-driven approach at Harvard Medical School. In 1994 I moved to Tennessee where I am the Dietetic Internship Director at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. From 19••••04 I was the sports RDN (10 hours/week) for UT athletes; primarily teaching a required nutrition course for Lady Vol freshman and football players, providing individual counseling & team talks. I have a private practice, Tranquil Eating Associates, working with clients challenged with eating disorders and weight management issues. Www.tranquileat.com. I consulted at Focus, an IOP for ED treatment for 3 years. I am on the board of directors for the Behavioral Health Nutrition (BHN) dietetic practice group through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). In 2007 and 2011, I was honored with national awards, the Excellence in Practice Award for Sports Nutrition from SCAN (Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition), and for eating disorders from BHN. I was honored through NDEP (Nutrition & Dietetics Educators and Preceptors) as the 2014 Outstanding Educator. My goals are to continue to support and direct future RDNs to become leaders in the field of nutrition, and to continue to discover effective tools to aid individuals to enjoy food and movement and their bodies while becoming their healthiest selves. Specialties: Counseling and lifestyle change related to weight management, disordered eating and eating disorders, sports nutrition and overall health/wellness.
