The Smilowitz Lab at the University of Connecticut Health Center researches the fields of cancer, cancer immunotherapy, and tumor and vascular imaging. Investigate novel biomarkers in human breast cancer through screening and analysis of blood samples from women with breast cancer, with a special interest in studying possible associations between soluble Lymphocyte-Activation Gene 3 (sLAG-3) protein levels, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), and race.Review previous research on the role of LAG-3, an immunosuppressive receptor that inhibits T cell activity and promotes the suppressive activity of regulatory T cells, on various characteristics in breast cancer patients.
