The Global Investigative Journalism Network\'s mission is to support and strengthen investigative journalism around the world—with special attention to those from repressive regimes and marginalised communities. At the heart of GIJN is an international association of nonprofit journalism organisations. From its founding in 2003, GIJN has grown to include 250 member groups in 91 countries. Today, with an annual budget of $3 million and staff based in 25 countries, GIJN works in a dozen languages to link together the world’s most enterprising journalists, giving them the tools, technology, and training to go after abuses of power and lack of accountability.In my first year as Development Director, I:* implemented a CRM/database* helped increase funding by more than 7%* secured grants from six entirely new funders, and from five funders who had not provided support since 2019* secured sufficient funding to cover the costs of 288 journalists who otherwise would not have been able to attend our 2023 Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Gothenburg, Sweden* assisted with onsite event coordination for #GIJC23-the largest-ever international investigative journalism conference, with 2,138 registered attendees from 132 countries and territories* convened a gathering of 31 funding partners at #GIJC23* created and managed a first-ever \"exhibitors hall\" at #GIJC23, providing a marketing platform for companies to promote products that help journalists conduct their investigations more efficiently
