ABOUT KAREN MACAULAY

Tansi, my name is Karen MacAulay and I am a member of Kinosao Sipi Cree Nation, Norway House, Manitoba. I am founder of indigecation. Education; All Things Indigenous. After the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Senator Murray Sinclair was quoted as saying,\"it\'s Education that got us into this mess and it\'s Education that will get us out\". That quote has resonated with me from the first time I heard it. That was the catalyst to the creation of indigecation. Going to School during the 70\' & 80\'s in Winnipeg as a young Indigenous girl, was very difficult and definitely shaped who I\'ve become today. At that time, Society was NOT accepting of Indigenous Peoples and still today it may depend on where you are or who you are speaking to. I quickly learned to hide my Indigeneity all of my life, not knowing why. I first heard of Canadian Indigenous history when I was 43 years old, that\'s when I learned \"why\". I began a ferocious journey of learning what we weren\'t taught in school about Canadian history, the \"other\" side.the side that included Indigenous Peoples in Canada. I know there are others like me who need to know their truth, the history of their ancestry.
