ABOUT KAREN LIU

Like any self-respecting Asian parent, my Dad wanted me to be a doctor. That obviously did not happen. While I\'ve always been interested in healthcare, being a doctor didn\'t seem like the right path for me. I\'ve also in recent years found myself resonating with the systemic nature of computational processes. I stumbled upon the best of both worlds in the second-year of my undergraduate degree, when I attended a seminar which exposed me to the potential of computational methods in streamlining the hospital experience, from the waitroom, throughout diagnosis and treatment, and finally to remission. From here, I saw the potential of computational health to fill a niche in a field which requires timeliness and precision. That summer, I switched my major from physiology to bioinformatics and computational biology.I\'m currently completing my Masters of Applied Computing at the University of Toronto with a concentration in Data Science. Through my coursework and research, I\'ve gained considerable experience with the data analysis process, particularly pertaining to molecular genetics and large multi-omics datasets. I\'ve loved collaborating with a wide variety of individuals with varying degrees of biological and computational knowledge, having myself worked on both sides of the spectrum. Beyond data science, I\'m also fascinated by AI and its ability to optimize processes, accelerate discoveries, and solve complex problems. Feel free to message me, I\'m always happy to connect!
