ABOUT KAREN KEPTNER

Most people approach student retention by creating more programs and services. I approach it by addressing the daily life barriers that prevent students from accessing existing support because I believe that supporting students\' life demands creates real belonging.Common signs your institution is missing critical supports-Mental health services are overwhelmed with no preventative support upstream-High rates of students taking medical leave or dropping out-Disability services operating in isolation from student life and academic support-Students receive diagnoses and accommodations but no practical strategies to function-Wellbeing initiatives focus on events and awareness, not sustainable daily functioningOver the past 10 years, I\'ve partnered with universities and student services teams to create practical, evidence-based support for students\' activities of daily living, resulting in- Students better equipped to manage daily routines alongside academic demands- Improved engagement with mental health support through practical skill-building- More effective use of academic accommodations- Enhanced student resilience and independence- Stronger connection between wellbeing services and academic success- Students prepared for workplace demands after graduationI support institutions through: Training for student services staff on occupation-focused approaches Supporting programs and schools to address retention along with mental health challenges Providing group programs for students managing chronic conditions including mental illness Individual assessments and interventions for students Workshops on time management, stress management, and daily living skills I\'m passionate about making occupational therapy ideas accessible and relevant in spaces where it\'s been missing.
