ABOUT KAREN BRILEY-SAEBO
I received on PhD in Medical Physics from the University of Uppsala in Sweden and have +20-years\' experience in the pharmaceutical industry and +15 years in an academic environment. I am currently working at Antaros Medical as a Senior Director PET Imaging. Antaros Medical partners with pharma and smaller biotech companies to create clinical imaging solutions to support complex mechanistic clinical studies as well as large-scale, global, multi-centre imaging trials. As a Senior Director PET Imaging, my current focus relates to the support of both non-clinical and clinical PET research opportunities in the US. I am a remote employee, with an office in both the Boston area and Richmond Virgina. In addition to supporting Antaros Medical\'s PET program, I also have the amazing opportunity to help support the development and design of the Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease and Metabolic Health at Virgina Commonwealth University. The Institute is led by director Arun Sanyal, M.D, and advanced by a $104 million gift by R. Todd Stravitz, M.D, a hepatologist in VCU’s Department of Internal Medicine and former medical director of liver transplant at VCU Medical Center. The Institute is creating unequaled capacity for clinical research and innovation that includes access to extensive biobanks and tissue samples, new imaging diagnostics and biomarker data, core facilities (3T MRI, Quadra PET/CT, and full GMP radiopharmaceutical laboratory), and technologies not available elsewhere.Prior to starting at Antaros, I worked as an Associate Director at Invicro. At Invicro I had the opportunity to interface with industry on a variety of projects ranging from proof-of-concept to dosimetry for IND applications. My position allowed me to help Sponsors move novel therapeutics and materials forward in disease indications including oncology, rare and metabolic disease, and neurology. While working at the Wright Center of Innovation and Biomedical Imaging, at the Ohio State University, my responsibilities involved the development of operation systems and support of new and ongoing translational pharmaceutical and imaging innovation efforts. While at Mount Sinai I was involved in the clinical translation of bio-compatible diagnostic agents for the detection of oxidation-specific epitopes (OSE) that are associated with high-risk atherosclerotic plaque. We developed and produced antibodies and peptides to target OSE. These antibodies were conjugated to a variety of nanoparticles to allow for in vivo detection using MRI, PET, and MR/PET.
